60 Celebrating 60 Years of Labour for Success — Diamond Jubilee, 14 November 2026 Kakoma at 60 →

The fuller history below will be expanded as founding families, elders and early alumni share their records and recollections with the school. This page will keep growing as more material comes in from the Rakai field research.

Founded in Rakai District, 1967

Kakoma Secondary School was established in 1967 in Rakai District, on land gifted by the local community — an act of generosity that made education possible for generations of young people from the surrounding communities and beyond. That founding gift remains at the heart of the school's identity: Kakoma exists because a community chose to invest its land, and its hope, in the education of its children.

The Founding Families

Kakoma's earliest years were shaped by the founding families and local leaders who championed the school's establishment. Their names, contributions and stories — gathered through interviews conducted during our Rakai field trip — will be documented here in full as that material is compiled.

Major Eras

Over six decades, Kakoma has grown through several distinct eras — from its founding years, through decades of expansion and academic growth, to today's Diamond Jubilee generation under Head Teacher Bbale David. A detailed era-by-era account, drawing on alumni testimonies and school records, will be added here.

Labour for Success

Through every era, one thread has held: the motto "Labour for Success" — a call to disciplined effort that Kakoma old students carry with them long after they leave the school gates, as seen in the generosity and pride on display at our 2026 Old Students' fundraising dinner.
